Миллионеры задумались об отъезде из-за налога
More than half of British millionaires are ready to leave the country if the authorities introduce a new wealth tax.
This was stated by about 60 percent of the participants in a survey conducted by the consulting company Arton Capital, as Bloomberg reports. Among the over a thousand respondents with assets of at least one million pounds, most said that with such changes they would "be more likely to leave the country".
The United States, Canada, Australia, and the UAE were the most popular destinations for departure, according to the respondents. Researchers explain this by a combination of lower taxes and an English-speaking environment.
Finance Minister Rachel Reeves, against the background of a significant budget deficit, has previously ruled out an increase in income tax, VAT, and insurance contributions, but has not closed the issue of a wealth tax. The UK government is now discussing various options for increasing the tax burden, including raising rates on capital gains or a corporation tax.
Earlier in the year, billionaire and founder of Bridgewater Associates, Ray Dalio, called the course of British authorities, which involves increasing borrowing at high rates, dangerous. He urged London to either significantly reduce government spending or raise taxes in order to avoid borrowing more and more money at higher and higher interest rates, thereby worsening the debt situation.
In April, due to import duties in the United States imposed by Donald Trump's administration, the discussion of London raising taxes resumed. This could lead to an average British family losing 400 pounds a year.
